These are now the new British Canoeing Paddle and Performance Awards for 2019
We can teach/coach and assess the new British Canoeing Start, Discover, Explore & Foundation Safety and Rescue Course (for over 16’s) also we Train and assess Instructor, Core Coach and Coach sheltered water module, kayaking river trips run all year some day and weekend trips
Our kayaking courses are run with the emphasis on ‘fun enjoyable learning’.
The Start award is your first session on the water; learning useful skills for an enjoyable paddling experience. It aims to provide you with the basic knowledge to enable you to safely get in and out of your boat, make it move and return to your start point. This is your first step into the world of paddling, ensuring you feel safe, confident and ready to progress to the Discover Award.
The Discover Award allows you to develop your decision making and practical skills for a fun and safe time on the water, taking you on the next steps towards becoming a proficient and independent paddler. Learn how to choose and effectively use equipment, whilst developing an understanding of the factors which affect your paddling; giving you the confidence to progress to making your own choices with the Explore Award.
The Explore Award gives you ownership; allowing you to choose where you move next in the world of paddlesport. Working with a coach you will be able to develop a programme that suits what you need. Learning to make confident choices with this individualised approach. Using the sheltered water environment to focus on knowledge and skills specific to a subject or discipline.
The Touring award is designed to develop your ability to apply appropriate decision making skills to an enjoyable and safe day out touring. Your Touring Award endorses your skill, judgment and decision making required to have a successful day on a river or estuary. You will be confident in planning and undertaking journeys with proficient skills to be in control throughout. Your award should be seen as a sound basis for building the experience and knowledge associated with the Open Water Touring Award holders.
White-Water This award is designed to develop your ability to apply appropriate decision making skills for a safe day out white water paddling. Your White Water Award endorses your skill, judgment and decision making to ensure a successful day on rivers up to grade 2. You will be confident in planning and undertaking journeys on moving water with proficient skills to be in control throughout. Your award should be seen as a sound basis for building the experience and knowledge associated with Progressive White Water Award holders.
Paddlesport Instructor and Coach Awards
Paddlesport Instructor award
The Paddlesport Instructor is an entry point qualification. It seeks to introduce the fundamentals of safe, ethical and effective paddlesport coaching.

Paddlesport Coach Core Module
The Core Coach Training will explore different approaches to coaching, understanding and enabling learning, and some core coaching skills. You will also be supported in evolving your personal coaching development plan to enable you to take your learning into practice after the course.

Paddlesport Sheltered Water Coach Module
The Discipline Specific Training focuses on how to coach the discipline specific skills and what you will be coaching. The training explores how to coach technical and tactical skills. The course will help coaches plan and deliver safe, enjoyable, progressive coaching sessions and explore specifics to help coaches coach some typical athletes/learners relevant to you/your discipline.

The Southwater Watersports Awards for under 16’s
Start – an entry level award suitable for taster sessions or as part of a series of sessions.
Passport – four progressive levels based on 24 topics which can be grouped into Safety Awareness, Paddling Skills, Varied Experiences, and Supporting Knowledge.
Discover – this follows on from Passport with a further 4 levels to take the young paddler to a higher level.
Explore - three different levels take the paddler on an extensive journey exploring the great variety Paddlesport, with topics focused on participation in events and journeys in the competitive and non-competitive disciplines.
Excel - three levels to test the paddler on all elements of Kayaking and or Canoeing including being responsible for self and others, participation in journeys, coaching sessions, training, events/competitions in a variety of disciplines, background knowledge of the sport; access, rules, environmental, nutrition and goal setting.
We also do improver courses so that children can improve their skills for experience. These are run at the same time as the other children’s kayaking courses
